When English and Norwegian soldiers had gone ashore several places along the Norwegian coastline, in Lofoten among other places, the German military leaders were convinced that an allied attack by sea was soon to come.
The iron ore, which was shipped from Narvik, was extremely important for both parts and therefore Grovfjord became important to defend too. By car an intruder would reach Narvik within 2 hours.
